Call for Contributions to the Ph.D. Forum

The 40th Symposium on Reliable Distributed Systems (SRDS 2021) will hold a forum for current Ph.D. students and graduate students who plan to take their Ph.D. degrees.

The Ph.D. Forum provides an opportunity for graduate students working in research areas related to reliable distributed systems to present their problem statement, goals, methods and results, and to receive high-quality feedback and guidance from stablished researchers and other graduate students joining the forum. The Ph.D. Forum has a presentation session in the main conference program for accepted papers, which will be published in the IEEE proceedings and IEEE Xplore.

Note: Students are encouraged to contact the Ph.D. Forum Co-Chairs as early as possible with their intention to submit work to the forum.

Topics of Interest

The major areas of interest include the following topics:

  • Dependability, security and privacy of distributed systems including, but not limited to, cloud, high-performance, fog, and edge computing; distributed data storage and processing using volatile and non-volatile media; distributed machine learning and AI; safety-critical distributed systems; Internet of Things, vehicular, robotic, cyber-physical and mobile systems.
  • Techniques and algorithms advancing the state-of-the-art in fault tolerance, fault recovery, robustness, self-stabilization, self-healing, scalability, and real-time for distributed systems. These include, but are not limited to, coordination, replication, failure prediction and detection, micro-services, transactions, and blockchains.
  • Methods and tools for the design, implementation, verification, validation, and operation of dependable and secure distributed applications, middleware, operating systems and hardware.
  • Analytical, simulative and experimental assessment of dependable and secure distributed systems, in particular, when in real settings or with real data and in large scale and complex environments.

Submission Guidelines

Students interested in the Ph.D. Forum are encouraged to submit their original papers (extended abstracts). The submissions must be no longer than 2 pages in IEEE two-column format, presenting the problem domain and statement, the main challenges identified, and the envisioned or devised approach. The student must be the first author of the paper, followed by the supervisor(s). Copyright on accepted papers will remain with the author(s).

All papers must be submitted using EasyChair: https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=phdsrds2021
